Italian or Mexico Brownie Recipe

It’s up to you.  You can have a Mexican or Italian Christmas.  Their flags are almost exactly the same but also happen to be the colors of Christmas.

This recipe delivers the reminiscent flavor of peppermint with a big bonus for the chocolate lover! Chocolate brownies with Chocolate topping.  These are easy and quick.

You’ll need:

  • 13×9 baking pan.
  •  One family sized brownie mix and ingredients listed on the back of the box which normally includes egg and oil.
  • 1-12 oz bag of white chocolate
  •  3 or more peppermint candy canes   with a hammer or strong rolling pen and a Ziploc baggie.
  • Food coloring; red and green

Bake brownies as instructed on box in 13×9 pan.  Allow to cool.

In a double boiler melt chocolate. When fully melted, evenly divide chocolate into three small bowls with 3 individual spoons, one for each bowl.  Working quickly,  mix in 8 drops red coloring into one bowl and mix 8 drops green coloring into another, leaving last bowl of chocolate white.

Empty red chocolate onto one end of the brownies, empty bowl of green chocolate onto the other end of the brownies and lastly empty the white chocolate onto the center of the brownies.   Spread chocolate evenly over brownies.   While the chocolate is still warm…

It’s easy to put candy canes in the food processor, hit the mulch button and you have pulverized peppermint.  It’s more fun to put candy canes in the Ziploc bag and hit it with a hammer a few times.  Sprinkle peppermint over chocolate, lightly pressing peppermint into chocolate.  Cut into small bite sized squares for the kids or add them to your Goodie Gift Tins.
