Yesterday we posted this picture and asked “wolves or coyotes?”
It’s really difficult to tell from a picture however, we cheated. We know what they are.
Wolves and coyotes are very similar with some distinct differences. A wolf has short rounded ears versus a coyotes longer pointed ears, smaller pointed nose, and smaller paw size. Weight is another factor when trying to reach a determination. Wolves can reach up to and surpass a coyote’ s weight by more than 4 times depending on the coyote.
This picture was taken at the zoo at the new wolf enclosure. According to the zoo, these little doggies are wolves.

You forgot the Coywolves… they can have those traits, and maybe others 😂. Common for both breeds to mate in Canada and northern US. Nice article, and very educational. Thanks.
